It´s official: August will have a European football festival

August will bring a lot of excitement to European football. Dates of the two biggest European club competitions have been confirmed and set August as a football month. Traditional summer holidays month will also be a true football festival provided by some of the best teams in the world. Between 7th and the 23rd, emotions of the European club tournaments are back and the new champions will be revealed.

Due to the pandemic, this year the European cup tournaments will have exceptional rules. UEFA has given priority to the national leagues, which are due to be concluded by the end of July. After that, the clubs can focus exclusively on the tournaments. UEFA also decided to place the qualifiers in a single round. The games will take place in the same country and behind closed doors – like the national leagues are currently being played.

Champions League

The most prestigious club tournament in the world will be played in Lisbon between August 7th and 23rd. Luz and Jose de Alvalade will be the match venues.

  • Round of 16: August 7-8
  • Quarterfinals: August 12-15
  • Semifinals: August 18-19
  • Final: August 23

Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid, Atalanta, Leipzig, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Barcelona, ​​Lyon, Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester City are the contenders.

Europa League

The Europa League decisions will take place in Germany. The cities of Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen, all located in the country north-west, will host the matches. Six of the qualifiers have already completed the first leg, and it remains to define whether UEFA will allow the second leg matches to take place in the original venues or will also take place in Germany.

  • Round of 16: August 5-6
  • Quarterfinals: August 10-11
  • Semifinal: August 16-17
  • Final: August 21

Still in the fight are Eintracht Frankfurt, Basel, Basaksehir, Copenhagen, Olympiacos, Wolverhampton, Glasgow Rangers, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, Rome, Inter and Getafe.
